New Zealand's birth, death and marriages department has expanded their list of banned baby names, including some that are quite unusual.

"Since 1995, the Births, Deaths, and Marriages and Relationships Registration Act has provided a set of rules around acceptable names for New Zealanders," a spokesperson for the country's department of internal affairs told Sky News.

"A name, or combination of names, should not cause offense, be unreasonably long or resemble an official title or rank."

Sky News reports that a New Zealand couple met opposition from the country's department when trying to register their child's name separated with a backsplash.

And aside from grammatical symbols, stand-alone letters that do not represent a full name are also prohibited for use as baby names: "AJ," "MC," "VI," "LB," and "CJ" were all rejected.

But there have been some other baby naming attempts that are a lot more obscure, including monikers like "Lucifer" and "Mafia No Fear."

The ban list is comprised of 77 names, revealing some attempts from parents to name their children "Anal" or just simply number them as "2nd," "3rd" or "5th."

But since 2001, some of the most commonly rejected names have been "King" and "Duke" because of their resemblance to an official title, while "Justice" was the most turned down name on the list with 62 rejections.
