Today it was officially announced that the Infinite Crisis closed beta would begin on May 8. Anyone interested in participating can sign up on the official website, and should also consider registering for a WBID to improve their chances of being selected.

The MOBA game draws its inspiration from the various alternate realities that form the DC comics multiverse. So far, the confirmed characters include:

Nightmare Batman, a vampirism-infected Batman from the Nightmare universe.

Doomsday, a villain from the Prime universe best known for killing Superman.

Flash from the Prime universe, a Justice League member with super speed.

Gaslight Batman from the steampunk inspired Gaslight universe.

Gaslight Catwoman, a League of Assassins trainee in this universe.

Gaslight Joker, the universe's most infamous serial killer.

Green Lantern from the Prime universe, a Justice League member who uses willpower to materialize anything he can imagine.

Poison Ivy from the Prime universe, a villain who uses plants and toxins.

Shazam from the Prime universe, a teenager given the powers of ancient gods.

Joker from the Prime universe, Batman's archnemesis.

Wonder Woman from the Prime universe, an Amazon princess and combat expert.

Zatanna from the Prime universe, a powerful magician.

More characters are expected to be announced soon, with many more to come if the game proves to be successful. The DC multiverse is absolutely rich with characters, and I wouldn't be surprised if we see Batman's Rogues Gallery and the rest of the Justice League eventually included, in addition to some appearances from the Vertigo label.

So far, not too many details of how the MOBA game will play out have been released. However, a number of gameplay videos highlighting certain heroes and villains have shed some light on the different aspects of the game.

Here is one for Nightmare Batman:

The game will be officially released later this year. Until then, we'll probably be hearing a lot more about it once the beta goes live on May 8.
