It appears the Pokémon franchise is making an attempt to please fans from the first generation ahead of the October release date for "Pokémon X and Y."

As Latinos Post reported, a new Pokémon for the upcoming Nintendo 3DS-exclusive game made its debut with heavy similarities to first generation Pokémon Mewtwo. The debut was shown during the Japanese spinoff show "Pokémon Smash" by Game Freak Director Junichi Masuda.

Two important subjects, however, was not disclosed during the reveal: the name and relationship to Mewtwo. Fans were left unsure if the new Pokémon was a new form, evolution, or a standalone pocket monster for the franchise.

According to the magazine CoroCoro, the new Pokémon is in fact a new form. The news comes as Mewtwo is set to make its theatrical return in "Extreme Speed Genesect: Mewtwo's Awakening" (not officially translated in the U.S.), which will feature Mewtwo battling against five Genesects.

With a Japanese release date set for July 13, an official movie poster for the film has been provided months ago, however, a second variation released last week baring similarities to the first show's Mewtwo looking different. Fans speculated about its validity, but at alas, the new movie poster is real.

"Though it doesn't reveal anything new, CoroCoro also reveals the pieces about the new Pokémon revealed last week. In doing so, it confirms that it replaces Mewtwo on the movie poster and confirms that it is in fact a new form of Mewtwo, with the poster explanation stating that Mewtwo has awakened and become its new shape," noted the fansite Serebii.

"Pokémon X" and "Pokémon Y" are set to be released in Australia, Europe, North America, and Japan in October 2013 for the Nintendo 3DS.
