On Monday April 15th, Telemundo will premiere their new telenovela "El Senor de Los Cielos."

The series starring Rafael Amaya, Fernanda Castillo and Ximena Herrera, follows the life and times of Amado Carillo Fuentes as he became a bonafide Mexican Drug Lord and became the boss of the Juarez Cartel in the 1980s and 1990s.

During this time period Amado Carrillo became known as "El Señor de Los Cielos" because of the large fleet of jets he used to transport drugs. He was also known for laundering $20 million via Colombia to finance his huge fleet of planes. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration described Carrillo as the most powerful drug trafficker of his era.

He died in a Mexican hospital after undergoing extensive plastic surgery to change his appearance. He is regarded as one of the wealthiest criminals in history.

Telemundo reported that the new series would become the most expensive Telenovela ever produced with a production cost of $10-20 million. The record had previously been held by a similar series entitled "La Reina del Sur.

The series will see appearances by Andres Parra, who will reprise his role as Pablo Escobar from "El Patron del Mal" and Colombian actress Carmen Villalobos who will play the role of Leonor Ballesteros.

Amaya is best known for his work in "La Reina del Sur," "Salome," 'Amar Otra Vez" and "Alguien te Mira." He is also known for having been part of the music group Garibaldi which split in the early 2000s.

Herrera was recently seen in the 2011 series "Ni Contigo Ni Sin Ti." She also starred in "El Pantera" and "Las Tontas No Van Al Cielo."

Castillo recently completed work on the series "Amor Bravio" for which she was nominated for a Premios TVy Novela award. Her breakout role was seen in 2010 in the role of Luisa in "Teresa."

"El Senor de Los Cielos" also stars Gabriel Porras, Sara Corrales, Julian Arango, Robinson Diaz, Angelica Celaya and Rodolfo Valdes. The soap opera premieres at 10pm on Telemundo.
