Yesterday at the Game Developers Conference Hideo Kojima confirmed that Metal Gear Solid 5 is coming out soon. Kojima made it seem like Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain, two previously announced titles, were both the singular Metal Gear Solid 5. But now in an interview with Siliconera, Konami's director of public relations Jay Boor has stated that is not the case.

"Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain are two separate games...GZ will be a prologue to The Phantom Pain."

Furthermore, Kojima himself clarified further on Twitter about the two games.

"'Ground Zeroes'" is a prologue of 'MGSV'. 9 years after that event will be 'The Phantom Pain'. MGSV is constructed w/ prologue and main game 'TPP'. The game play demo I presented today is the opening of "TPP" which is tutorial that starts from crawling."

This explains the confusion many felt when Kojima confirmed that The Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes were Metal Gear Solid 5, when they were announced at different times, and The Phantom Pain was shrouded in mystery. Indeed, the game was initially suppose to be made by the fictional Moby Dick Studios using the Fox Engine.  Now both Boor and Kojima's statements put the two game's into new perspective.

Boor also had several other details to share concerning the games. He revealed that, while he cannot comment on Ground Zeroes, The Phantom Pain will be released for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. When asked if the games shall have two separate releases, or be part of the same package or on a single disk, Boor could not confirm anything.

The games were announced yesterday as two halves of the whole Metal Gear Solid 5 game, which is a prequel featuring the future Big Boss, Naked Snake. It is still current unknown when either game is set for release.
