One rumor regarding the Apple iPhone 5 has been confirmed: the phone will not have a dock connector.

According to Tech Crunch, Apple will be switching to a "19-pin" or Micro USB port on the iPhone 5. Apple's other iterations of the smartphone utilize a 30-pin connector known as the "Dock Connector." Rumors had spread about the new 19-pin connector after pictures surfaced on the web.

The new addition will alter numerous accessories that iPhone users will have to buy. With the older dock connector, consumers would have to pay about $19 plus shipping for the OEM Connector to USB Cable. The Micro USB cable is only $0.59 with free shipping.

As usual, Apple has remained quiet on the issue, but numerous news outlets such as Computerworld, CNET, and TechCrunch have confirmed the new port for the phone.

Rumors are still running rampant on the web over the phone's release date and new features.

A video was put on Youtube by ETrade portraying what many believe to be the back cover of the iPhone 5. As for the release date, most have it penciled in for September and October. However, there has been no confirmation and the anticipation and hype has only escalated.

Foxconn CEO Terry Gou recently stated that the phone will put the new Samsung Galaxy S3 to "shame."

The S3 is the latest and most hip smartphone on the market.
