Dead Space 3: Awakened DLC is coming March 12, but curious gamers can check out a trailer for the game below. Gamers are also able to check out extended preview footage of the game over at IGN. The following does contain spoilers, so if you do not want the story of the game revealed, it is best to stop at this point.

Awakened takes place after the events of Dead Space 3. Isaac and Carver have survived the epic conclusion of the game, and have now left Tau Volantis. However, Unitologists have taken over the ship they were going to use to get back to Earth. These Unitologists, however, have taken their worship of the Necromorphs to the extreme, mutilating themselves so that they look more like the creatures.

The cultists have remodeled the ship, adding grisly altars and other macabre details to the ship. Eventually, Isaac suffers from a hallucination, and begins fighting the cultists. However, is this encounter real or just imaginary? Players will have to find out for themselves how the ending of the main game has affected Isaac and Carver once the DLC is available.

The DLC will be co-op, just like the main game. Visceral Game's Sharif Pattu, who produced the game, has said that in a video interview with Pixel Enemy that the DLC "It is going to be the scariest chapters we have ever created for the Dead Space Franchise." Sharif also promised that the expansion will be several chapters long, and will feature new weapons that can become available.

Though Dead Space 3 has garnered lackluster sales and reviews, this DLC looks like a strong epilogue to the story of the third game. We shall see how Isaac and Carver continued adventure when the DLC is available March 12.
