Last week's episode of 'The Vampire Diaries,' entitled "A View to a Kill," was a game changer in the quest to find the cure to vampirism. Elena (Nina Dobrev) and her friends put in motion her plan to have new hunter Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) kill Original Vampire Kol (Nathaniel Buzolic). Killing Kol will not only eliminate him as a threat but will kill off his entire line of vampires.

With Damon (Ian Somerhalder) locked up to keep his compulsion at bay, Elena is forced to call Stefan (Paul Wesley) to help her enact her risky plan. He agrees to help her get the dagger from Original Rebekah (Claire Holt) and have Matt (Zach Roerig) stake her to make sure she doesn't foil their plan. Meanwhile, Elena works on getting Kol into her house and Jeremy goes to pick up Bonnie (Kat Graham) to help them finish him off.

Stefan puts Original Hybrid Klaus (Joseph Morgan) in charge of Damon, while he goes to work on Rebekah. While he's with Damon, Klaus spills some details of Stefan and Rebekah's sexual rendezvous the previous night and even asks for some advice of his own. Stefan uses the cancelled 1980s Decade Dance to lure Rebekah to comfort, but it the process realizes that he can't stake her.

Jeremy encounters a problem when he goes to pick up Bonnie in the form of her father, new Mayor Hopkins (guest star Rick Worthy) and her vampire mother. Her mom, who has been absent for most of her life, sedates her with powerful herbs that are quickly overcome by Bonnie. Bonnie then uses her powerful magic to stop her mom and dad from blocking her from going to help Elena and Jeremy.

In the meantime, Elena manages to get Kol into her house but he eventually loses interest in her and leaves. He comes back to find both Jeremy and Elena in the house and the three battle it out for control. Kol stakes Elena in the stomach and pins Jeremy down to cut off his arms but is stopped when Elena comes running into the kitchen. A fight ensues and Elena and Jeremy are finally able to overpower him and kill him. Kol dies as his brother Klaus walks in.

Klaus becomes crazed and heads straight for Elena and Jeremy, only to be stopped by Bonnie. She encapsulates him in a powerful invisible barrier, giving the group between 3-4 days to look for the cure. Stefan breaks the news of her brother's death to Rebekah and after some time, she concedes to help them out. He tells everyone back at his and Damon's house, angering Elena who thought he had staked Rebekah. Damon then spills the details of their intimate relationship to everyone.

In this week's episode, entitled "Into the Wild," Dr. Shane (guest star David Alpay) leads the group into a cure-finding expedition to a remote island off the coast of Nova Scotia. During the trip, Elena and Rebekah continue their bitter fight despite anything Stefan does. Meanwhile, Damon gets the feeling that Shane is taking them straight to a trap and confronts him about it.

Despite Damon's misgivings, Shane shares more information about the legend of Silas and the witch Qetsiyah, the CW teases. Bonnie will help Jeremy figure out his new tattoo in the quest for the cure. Back home, Klaus and Tyler (Michael Trevino) have a confrontation that leaves Caroline (Candice Accola) right in the middle of it all.

'The Vampire Diaries' S4E13, "Into the Wild," airs Thursday, February 7 at 8 p.m. EST on the CW.
