The Dead Space 3 Demo is now available for download for PS3 and Xbox 360, a few weeks ahead of the release of the full game on February 5th.

There are a couple new features of the Dead Space 3 Demo, and therefore the game, which haven't been seen in previous incarnations of the Dead Space franchise. The biggest one is that Dead Space 3, and its demo, feature co-op play, much like the Halo franchise, as the characters Isaac Clarke and the new guy, John Carver, work together to battle necromorphs and help each other survive.

Other features of the demo include the weapons bench, where you can combine and tweak your weapons with parts that you find and pick up along the way. Also, a portion of the demo takes place away from the usual space ship and on a planet. Finally, players in Dead Space 3 have more evasive abilities than they did in previous games. The characters can roll and take cover from necromorph attacks.

The story of the forthcoming Dead Space 3 involves Clarke and Carver pushing forward to discover the source of the Necromorph plague. It begins with Isaac Clarke two months after the end of Dead Space 2. After escaping the Sprawl, Clarke and Ellie Langford meet Sgt. John Carver, who survived the planet Uxor. They discover that a frozen planet called Tau Volantis holds the secrets to the source of the Makers. But in an attempt to land on the planet, their ship breaks apart and Ellie is separated from Clarke and Carver. The two have to find and save Ellie, while also working to figure out how to stop the Makers and battling Necromorphs, including two new mutations called the Nexus and Wasters.
