In just over a week, on January 30, Research in Motion (RIM) will finally launch the BlackBerry 10. The new smartphone contender challenges the Samsung Galaxy S series and the iPhone for the crown, and seeks to match both devices' offerings point-for-point. The L-Series Z10 will even ship with a Siri alternative, as demonstrated on the most recent hands-on video of the upcoming device from Telekom (via Ubergizmo). This time, though, the iPhone 5 and Z10 are featured alongside one another. So, how do these devices stack up spec wise?

Thanks to TechRadar, we have the official specs of the still unannounced handset. The all-touch phone will feature a 4.2-inch screen at 1280x768 resolution, 16GB of internal storage, 2GB of RAM, and a 1,800mAh batter. Photographers will have a 2MP front camera, 8MP back camera, and single LED flash with auto focus at their disposal. The device also allows for 1080p digital recording with 5x digital zoom. Concrete details about the N-Series and X10's horsepower remain under wraps.

Notable BlackBerry 10-exclusive features include the 'Balance' encryption tool which separates work from personal data, and the 'Flow' gesture control suite.

The iPhone 5 is the thinnest smartphone Apple has ever made. The device shows up the iPhone 4S with a 4-inch screen that displays at 1136 x 640 pixels, a brand new A6 chip, an 8-megapixel back camera, a 1.2-megpixel front camera, a 1440 mAH battery, 1GB of RAM and an ultra-thin touch pad that sharpens feedback to user input.

At normal prices, prospective device owners who sign a two-year contract with Verizon, AT&T, or Sprint have the option of a 16GB iPhone 5 at $199, a 32GB at $299.99, and a 64GB at $399.99.
