Oscar night is finally here and the world will finally have the answers to a number of questions such as: Will Argo Win Best Picture despite the Best Director snub of Ben Affleck? Will Jennifer Lawrence or Jessica Chastain be actress of the year? Or will 86-year old Emmanuelle Riva surprise them with a historic victory as the oldest actress to win? Will Anne Hathaway win her first Oscar? Will Daniel Day-Lewis score his third?
The biggest television event of Hollywood takes place tonight when the Academy Awards are presented on ABC.
The Oscar statuette costs approximately $500 to make, but the victors earn a page in the history of the Academy Awards. Interestingly, the "losers" actually get to take home over $45,000 in goodies as consolation for their losses.
On Feb. 24 the Academy Awards will unveil the Best Picture of the year. The awards are known for their unpredictable nature in the technical awards but never in the major Acting, Screenplay, or Best Picture awards.
On Feb. 9 the Academy Awards presented the Scientific Tech awards. Due to their low profile, these awards will be mentioned during the official Oscar broadcast.

"Beasts of the Southern Wild" was the biggest surprise on Jan.10 when the Academy Awards announced their nominations. The film was expected to land Best Picture and Best Adapted Scennplay nominations. There was also some consensus that Quvenzhane Wallis would get nominated but no one ever expected newcomer Benh Zeitlin to land a Best Director nod.
The Adapted screenplay category is one of the most contested races this year as it includes five best picture nominees. The award is usually decided after all the precursors have been hand out. However with no consensus it could go to anyone this year. Previous winners have been "The Descendants," "The Social Network," "Precious," "Slumdog Millionaire," "No Country For Old Men," and "The Departed."
The Best Supporting Actress race has long been defined since the precursor awards began this year. The nominees feature two winners and three past nominees. Past winners include Octavia Spencer (The Help), Melissa Leo (The Fighter), Monique (Precious), Penelope Cruz (Vicky Christina Barcelona) and Tilda Swinton (Michael Clayton).
"Amour" represents the biggest surprise in the Best Picture Category. The Michael Haneke directed film received five nominations for the Academy Awards.
On Feb. 10 the British Academy Awards will hand out their prestigious Film Awards.
The Academy Awards producers have announced that Dame Shirley Bassey will perform at the Oscars. Additionally they have announced that "The Avengers" stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo and Samuel L. Jackson will present.
On Feb. 5, Producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron announced that Meryl Streep, Jean DuJardin, Octavia Spencer, and Christopher Plummer will present at the Oscars on Feb. 24.
