Jennifer Lopez's claim to fame of late has been her relationship with her 25-year old boyfriend Casper Smart. However, it seems that the actress/singer would like to win an Oscar someday.

According to the Huffington Post, Lopez has stated that she has an Academy Award in her sights. "I think everybody that has ever taken acting seriously would love to be recognized in that way," she said during an interview with E! "Of course! Why not?"

Lopez has only been nominated for two Grammys in her career as a singer and has never won. As an actress she received a Golden Globe nomination in 1998 for her turn in "Selena." She lost that year to Helen Hunt.

One award that Lopez is familiar with winning is the Razzie Award, an awards ceremony that parodies all other accolades and recognizes the worst in film in a calendar year. Lopez has garnered six Razzie nominations in her career and has won two; she won the Worst Actress and Worst Screen Couple with Ben Affleck for "Gigli."

On aggregate website Rotten Tomatoes, Lopez's filmography has been poorly received in general. Of the 23 films that are reviewed on the site, only five have fresh ratings (higher than 60 percent approval ratings). Only two of those are certified fresh (higher than 75 percent approval ratings). According to the site, Lopez has not been in a fresh movie since 1998's "Antz," which happens to be her highest rated film at 95 percent.  Her worst film rating is "Gigli," which garnered a seven percent approval rating.

Is there a chance?

Given her track record, it could be a stretch. However, there is hope for the thespian if she can do one of two things. She can either compose a song that gets a lot of buzz and hope for the Best Song category or she can do what Matthew McConaughey did and get serious about acting and her projects. Most of Lopez's recent work has been in the Hollywood comedy with such films as "What to Expect When You Are Expecting" and "The Backup Plan." McConaughey was once known for the same brand of film, but the actor has since changed his work and has explored new realms with such films as "Magic Mike," "Killer Joe" and "Bernie"  which have pushed his acting abilities. His reward for his work this year was a nomination at the Independent Spirit Awards for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor. He was also getting buzz for a potential Oscar nomination. In his latest project "Dallas Buyers Club," McConaughey plays a man diagnosed with HIV. The actor lost substantial weight to play the role.  No one is saying Lopez has to do something so radical, but if she is serious about winning her Oscar, she'd need to pick her projects and exploring acting chops a bit more.
