Tuesday's episode of NBC's drama 'Parenthood' was emotionally supercharged with a hint of comedy. The season's thirteenth episode, entitled "Small Victories," showed how Drew (Miles Heizer) dealt with finding out his girlfriend Amy (Skyler Day) was pregnant and later her abortion. Over at the Braverman-Grahams, Julia (Erika Christensen) and Joel (Sam Jaeger) were forced to truly think about their decision to adopt son Victor (Xolo Mariduena) after he calls the police and accuses Julia of child abuse.

Things were slightly less emotionally charged over at Adam (Peter Krause) and Kristina's (Monica Potter) as the couple attempted to explain to their growing son Max (Max Burkholder) that he'd have to start showering since he had hit puberty. Tensions continued to rise in younger brother Crosby's house, as his mother-in-law Renee (Tina Lifford) continued to put a strain on his marriage to Jasmine (Joy Bryant).

Oblivious to what is really going on with her son Drew, Sarah (Lauren Graham) sees ex-fiancé Mark (Jason Ritter) again when he visits her with his concerns for Drew. The visit stirs up old emotions for Sarah, who is in a pseudo-relationship with her boss Hank (Ray Romano).

In the upcoming episode, entitled "One Step Forward, Two Steps Back," Julia and Joel will have to make the difficult decision on Victor's official adoption. Meanwhile, tensions will reach a peak at Crosby and Jasmine's when her mother "oversteps her boundaries and intrudes," NBC teased. Amber's (Mae Whitman) former boyfriend Ryan (Matt Lauria) returns to get advice from her grandfather Zeek (Craig T. Nelson) and attempts to make amends with Joel.

Sarah and Mark will revisit their relationship, while she contemplates her relationship with Hank. This time around, Mark won't give up and plans to fight for her, a preview suggests. Over at the Braverman household, Kristina will team up with Max to help him on a "unique campaign."

'Parenthood' S4E14, "One Step Forward, Two Steps Back," will air on Tuesday, January 15 at 10 p.m. EST on NBC.
