With the Pokémon video game franchise branching into the Nintendo 3DS, is there any hopes to see the upcoming "Pokémon X" and "Pokémon Y" on the Wii U?

No.

In an interview with Game Informer, Pokémon Company International Director of Consumer Marketing J.C. Smith stated Game Freak "traditionally...has always love the game to be on a portable device because of the communication, trading, and the experience of taking this adventure with you."

Smith further noted the reasons why a Pokémon game has not been a console game.

"It comes down to what the creators want to do," Smith told Game Informer. "Every time I've heard them talk about it, it's been about the portable experience, taking the adventure with you, being able to share it with friends, communicate, trade, battle - really encouraging that interaction."

With "Pokémon X" and "Pokémon Y," Smith did confirm the sixth generation games with maintain the hero and heroine characters as it has been since the third generation games - "Pokémon Sapphire Version" and "Pokémon Ruby Version."

The new Pokémon games will see an October 2013 release across North America, Australia, Europe, and Japan simultaneously.

The three starter Pokémon for the sixth generation have been confirmed on Tuesday with grass Pokémon Chespin, the fire Pokémon Fennekin, and the water Pokémon Froakie. Two legendary Pokémon names were confirmed on Wednesday with Xerneas, a Pokémon that resembles a deer, and Yveltal, a Pokémon that resembles a large bird.

The announcement of the new games comes approximately three months after "Pokémon Black 2" and "Pokémon White 2" launched across North America in October 2012.
