"Gangster Squad" had its premiere on Monday Jan 7. The red carpet rolled out with stars Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, Anthony Mackie and Michael Pena.

The film hits theaters on Jan 11th and chronicles the LAPD's fight to keep the East Coast Mafia types out of Los Angeles in the 1940s and 50s.

Ryan Gosling surprised reporters when he arrived at the Red Carpet because he was not with his girlfriend Eva Mendes; instead he brought his mother Donna Gosling. However Eva Mende's spirit was felt as Mrs. Gosling stated that "I'm wearing Eva Mendes tonight." Golsing backed his mom up telling reporters that "My mother's wearing all my girlfriend's clothes."

Also walking the Red Carpet was Josh Brolin who was arrested for public intoxication a few days ago. The actor however was not with wife actress Diane Lane, who he stated was sick. Instead Brolin and co-star Sean Penn joked around and told reporters that they had gone together as a couple. Brolin then told reporters that "He's a great, we've been friends for a long time." The two last worked together in the 2008 Oscar-winning film "Milk."

Emma Stone also walked the red carpet alone without her new boyfriend and Spider-Man co-star Andrew Garfield. She dazzled in a red Lanvin dress and her stylist mentioned that she wanted to go for a glamourous look with the red dress.

"Squad" was originally scheduled to be released in September but was delayed due to the Aurora shootings in Colorado this past July. The tragedy caused the producers of the film to reshoot and re-edit certain scenes, including one sequence when a group of mobsters raid a movie theater armed with machine guns. The film will be released by Warner Brothers and will hit 3,00 theaters nationwide.
