Remember the days when cell phones could go for days on a single charge? Nowadays, most people are lucky to get a full day's use out of their smartphone thanks to all the battery-eating processes and functions packed into our handsets. South Korean smartphone manufacturer Samsung has taken notice, and has officially released a bigger battery for the Samsung Galaxy S3.

The extended battery kit is available through retailers like MobileFun for $65, and will increase the Galaxy S3's capacity by 900mAh to 3,000mAh. This is essentially a 43 percent boost to battery life and makes the Galaxy S3's battery only 100mAh shy of the Galaxy Note 2's.

Since the battery is bigger, the kit also comes with a replacement cover for the back to accommodate for the battery sticking out. The kit is available for the Pebble Blue and Marble White Galaxy S3s, and comes with an NFC chip for use with Samsung's TecTiles.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 is Samsung's best-selling smartphone ever, so it makes sense that Samsung is going the extra mile to release a bigger battery. It's something Apple would hasn't done, so that alone is worth noting when trying to decide which company offers more product support.

After having used the Galaxy S3, I can say that with this kind of battery juice, the Galaxy S3 should run comfortably for a day or so, and that alone can make it worth the $65. Besides, there are few accessories as useful for a smartphone as a bigger battery. Given that it's an official first-party Samsung product, you should be able to expect some decent mileage out of it.

Let us know if you pick up the extended battery kit for the Samsung Galaxy S3 and what you think of it.
