"Argo" and "Zero Dark Thirty" continued to separate themselves from the pack as both films picked up major precursor awards.

Kathryn Bigelow's "Zero Dark Thirty" picked up a best picture win at the Utah Film critics, it's ninth such victory. The Utah critics stated that "Looper" was the runner-up film. Bigelow was selected as the runner-up for Best Director, an award won by Wes Anderson for his film "Moonrise Kingdom." The film also picked up an award for Best Actress (Jessica Chastain).

"Argo" picked up two best picture wins over the weekend from the Nevada and Oklahoma Film critics. With the victories, Ben Affleck's film now has seven best picture wins (all won in the last week and a half). No other winner has more than three Best Picture victories and it is becoming increasingly clear that "Argo" and "Zero Dark Thirty" are the top two films competing in awards season. "Argo" has been building momentum over the last few weeks while "Zero Dark Thiry" has slowed down after winning the first five major precursor awards.

In addition to winning best picture with Nevada, "Argo" was awarded for Best Director. The film also won best director at Oklahoma but added a victory in the screenplay category.
