The casting rumor frenzy for the film adaptation of E.L. James' bestselling erotic thriller '50 Shades of Grey' has remained strong despite months without any decisions. However, a decision on a casting director may soon be in the works.

Soon after Universal Pictures and Focus Films purchased the rights to the film earlier this year, producers Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti signed on to the project. 'Terra Nova' screenwriter Kelly Marcel followed closely behind in the fall. And if James' comments about casting decisions were to be considered, the next step would be a decision on who will direct the highly anticipated film.

A few months ago, PolicyMic released its top 10 picks for director including actress/director Angelina Jolie and former Christian Grey contender Channing Tatum. Today, Latinos Post narrows down the list to our top five director picks.

Catherine Hardwicke- The director of the first 'Twilight' film would be an ideal choice for the book that began as a 'Twilight' fan-fiction.

Mark Wahlberg- According to PolicyMic, the 'Ted' actor attempted to buy the rights to '50 Shades of Grey,' which shows his interest in the film.

Steven Soderbergh- Nudity in film is not something Soderbergh is unfamiliar with. He recently directed 'Magic Mike,' which could give him the right experience for '50 Shades of Grey.'

Channing Tatum- The 'Magic Mike' star recently announced that he wants to leave acting for a bit to pursue directing and what perfect film than the one he was previously linked to act in?

Robert Luketic- The director behind 'Legally Blonde' and '21' has worked with '50 Shades' producers De Luca and Brunetti, so he'd be able to mesh well with them on this monster project.
