CES is one of the biggest technology conferences that continuously provides an opportunity for people to see technology trends and innovations that will come for the year ahead.

Thus, with the 2016 event scheduled next week, there are a lot of things to look out for especially on virtual reality, autonomous cars and, of course, gadgets.

According to the report by The Verge, cars will definitely be on the spotlight again on CES with giant automakers making "groundbreaking" announcements.

The report cited that it is expected that General Motors will showcase the "production version" of its electric car, Chevy Bolt, while Volkswagen will unveil its new electric concept that could be in the form of a new Microbus.

Moreover, besides a slew of new car systems, CES could also provide the confirmation about Google and Ford's joint initiative in creating a self-driving car.

Televisions will also play a big part in the upcoming CES 2016. The Verge highlighted that it is likely that 4K TVs and some 8K models will be featured in the event while many will surely highlight features such as HDR and Dolby Vision.

Furthermore, Forbes emphasized that Samsung will also be revealing its new line of TVs that will be part of its SmartHub Initiative. Thus, its line-up of TVs will be Internet of Things (IoT) ready and will be connected with SmartThings platform.

On the other hand, Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality could also be a bigger presence in this year's CES. The Verge mentioned that, although the likes of Sony, Oculus and HTC were already expected to exhibit their respective VR hardware, it is also possible that new companies such as PC and accessory manufacturers could join the pack.

Forbes, however, cited that VR and Augmented Reality on CES will probably be limited to its use in the gaming and industrial sector given that both are still premature.

Phones, laptops, cameras, tablets and drones will also be featured in the event with small U.S. players such as Alcatel Onetouch, ZTE and Huawei expected to present something new.

Moreover, wearable technology is also projected to continue on the hype it built in the past year. The Verge predicts that sensors will highlight wearable tech along with the emergence of "hearables" or smart ear devices.

CES will be held at Las Vegas, Nevada from Jan. 6 to 9, 2016
