Details about the iPad Air 3 are still being kept under wraps by Apple Inc., but that doesn't stop curious fans from getting hold of plausible rumors on the device. Word on the grapevine is that the gadget could arrive as early as March next year.

Apple loyalists were surprised when the iPad Air 3 wasn't released months following the iPad Pro, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus arrivals, and as such, expectations arose.

Below are the latest updates on the highly anticipated device.

Apple iPad Air 3 Release Date

In one of the latest MacWorld reports, the iPad 3 Air could arrive in the first quarter of 2016, specifically at Apple's March event, where the company is set to roll out other new devices including the 2016 MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and the second-generation Apple Watch.

Apple iPad Air 3 Specs, Features, Upgrades

Of course, the release of the new iPad Air 3 begs the question of whether there will be any major changes to the device when compared to the iPad Air 2.

As noted by the Day Herald (via the website Fool), the Cupertino-based company isn't too adamant on launching the iPad Air 3 soon because they believe that there would be no point in the device if there are no accompanying revolutionary changes.

That is not to say there's no possibility of a release next year. In fact, countless iPad Air 3 reports have popped up, with a thinner third-generation Air being the latest.

IT Pro reported that the device could be lighter and thinner than the 6.1mm-thick iPad Air 2. Of course, tweaks are needed to achieve such a design, and the website claims the iPad Air 3 will house an iOS 9 or even higher A9X processor, with up to 128GB of storage.

However, it may no longer have FaceTime or the camera app to accommodate the upgrade.

Another expectation is a 4K display of 2334 x 3112, a huge jump from the iPad Air 2's 1536 x 2048, which according to Recombu, is way inferior to the display on the iPad Pro and the iPad Mini Pro since it is lacking in color depth, temperature and accuracy.

Alphr also published an article stating the possibility of a no pressure-sensitive 3D Touch display on the iPad Air 3.

Nevertheless, there is still technology worth emulating from the iPad Air 2, which includes wireless technology.

As for the iPad Air 3 camera, an 8MP front snapper has been reported. However, there's no word yet on the rear camera.

Meanwhile, the price of the device is rumored to be around $610.

It's important to remember that nothing is set in stone as of the moment, and all these reports should be taken with a grain of proverbial salt.

Fans will just have to wait for Apple Inc.'s formal announcement early next year, according to PC Tablet.
