The first "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" downloadable add-on will be released early February for the PlayStation 4, with PS3 and Xbox 360 set for March.

Publisher Activision and developer Treyarch made the announcement Monday, saying that "Awakening" will be available to the PS4 on February 2, 2016.

The early PS4 February release of "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 - Awakening" is reportedly part of Sony and Activision's timed exclusive contract, which Microsoft previously enjoyed with Activision for the Xbox One and Xbox 360. Meawhile, the Xbox One and PC is set to receive the "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" DLC pack the following month.

The "Awakening" DLC add-on is priced at $15, but if gamers choose to buy the "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" Season Pass for $50, the "Awakening" DLC is for free. However, the DLC pack isn't available to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles.

As noted by The Inquisitr, "some hair-raising moments" are in store for players with the new "Black Ops 3" movement system.

According to Polygon, "Awakening" offers four multiplayer maps - Gauntlet, Splash, Rise and Skyjacked - as well as a new "Black Ops 3" Zombies mode chapter titled "Der Eisendrache." The move is reportedly the same as prior Call of Duty DLC packs that Activision has released.

Below are official descriptions of the four maps, as described by Treyarch and Activision.

Gauntlet Map

  •  "Grounded in a military training facility"
  •  "Plays up the core philosophy of Treyarch's classic three lane map structure," with each primary lane a "unique environment" where "players battle through a sprawling jungle, sub-zero artic zone and rainy urban cityscape"

Splash Map

  •  "Set in an abandoned water theme park"
  •  "Vibrant and playful map" with "an imaginative environment complete with waterslides, a wrecked pirate ship, and a lazy river ride that winds through a fantastical forgotten city"
  •  Open flow of combat design with a myriad of underwater gameplay opportunities

Rise Map

  •  "Set in the snowy outskirts of Zurich"
  •  "Coalescence Corporation construction project for a massive subterranean research campus"
  •  Designed to cater to a "mix of classic Call of Duty cover combat alongside strategic core movement opportunities"
  •  Each section has "distinctly different styles of gameplay"

Skyjacked Map

  •  "Set on a security VTOL in the clouds over urban Zurich"
  •  "Reimagined version of Hijacked...with the same fast and frenetic gameplay with a twist"
  •  Players get to "explore the map in a variety of new ways thanks to the all-new core movement system inBlack Ops III"

"Skyjacked" stands out among all four maps since it's a remake of "Hijacked" from "Black Ops 2." However, the setting is on an Avengers Helicarrier-like location as opposed to a luxury yacht. As for "Splash" and "Rise," the former appears inspired by "Grind" while the latter is of "Silo."
