Bernardo Caamal Itzá, the journalist who posted a video on Facebook of a Mayan priest scolding and grabbing a young girl by her nose during a mass service in Tahdziu, Yucatán, was threatened before his personal account was disabled.

Last weekend, Marisela celebrated her "Quince Años". During the church service where Quinceañeras usually receive blessings before turning 15 years old, Manuel Chuc, the priest that was in charge of the mass, grabbed her nose and tried to rip her eyelash extensions.

The reason? He said that she didn't "confessed her sins" before receiving the communion. The incident was captured on camera by Caamal Itzá, who was asked to not post the video.

"Don't let this spread and this is something that we will keep in secret," Caamal told Regeneracion newspaper.

According to an statement that Caamal Itzá wrote after uploading the video, Itza's Facebook account was reported by someone before Facebook take it down permanently.

Caamal, a Mayan language speaker, was trained as a journalist in rural communication in 2004 in the indigenous radio network and in the radio of Chapingo's Autonomous University. In 2003, he received the Atkins Award due to his community work.

Mexico is one of the most dangerous countries for journalists. According to national statistics, around 80 journalists have been murdered in the last decade while 17 still missing.
