Hayden Christensen could reportedly reprise his role as the young Anakin Skywalker in "Star Wars Episode 8". Rumors of Christensen's return have circulated for months, and as the release of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" looms close, more reasons surface as to why this rumor could be true.

According to Youth Health Mag, Hayden could make a comeback in the "Star Wars" franchise via Episode 8, citing his "barely-there movies" as reason.

Further fueling rumors of Hayden Christensen return in "Star Wars" Episode 8 is a report by Making Star Wars claiming that makers of the franchise have approached Christensen to make negotiations and prepare him for "Star Wars: Rogue One".

Speculations of Christensen's return in "Star Wars" Episode 8 include the 34-year-old actor's return via a flashback scene or as Darth Vader's ghost.

Another suggestion is that he could make a brief appearance at least in Vader's mask in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens", since villain Kylo Ren has been shown in the trailer vowing in front of a mangled Darth Vader helmet that he will complete what the former Sith started, namely, bring back balance to the Force, according to The Inquisitr.

Christensen appeared as Luke Skywalker in Episodes 1 to 3, but he became Darth Vader in the third episode.

"Star Wars Episode 8" or "Star Wars: Rogue One", which is set between "Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith" and "Star Wars: A New Hope" episodes 3 and 4 of the film series is the first in a series of stand-alone and anthology movies that will explain other stories in the "Star Wars" universe.

If rumors of Hayden Christensen returning in "Star Wars" Episode 8 are true, it remains unknown how much relevance his role would play in the entire film series.

As for Disney, the company has yet to react on the latest speculations.

Meanwhile, fans had mixed reactions to the idea of Hayden Christensen returning in "Star Wars" Episode 8.

The Inquisitr previously reported that Christensen's acting in Episodes 1 to 3 were lambasted both by fans and critics for his lack of emotion in playing Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader.

While his reappearance in the franchise could mean little for the entire film series, "Star Wars" Episode 8 is still a long way off. A lot could still take place, and Darth Vader / Anakin Skywalker could still play a bigger role than previously thought.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens", the seventh episode and the latest instalment in the film series, is set for release on December 18.
