Tyson Fury achieved what he wanted last weekend, dethroning long-time boxing champion Wladimir Klitschko but it seems that this is not the last we will be seeing of the two heavyweights.

Fury scored a unanimous decision win over his 39-year-old opponent to win the WBA, IBF, and WBO heavyweight belts as well as the minor IBO title.

The Briton’s triumph also ended the Ukrainian’s boxing rein. Klitschko has not been beaten since 2014 though there could be a rematch looming between the two heavyweights in 2016.

There was an apparent clause on the contract for the fight for a rematch and the former champion would be exercising his right to it.

Klitschko was expectedly upset with the result but vows that he still has the fighter in him to try and get back at his conqueror.

"We'll soon work out when and where the rematch will take place and let you know," he added via BBC.

For his part, Fury welcomed the rematch, saying that he is ready to take on all challengers starting with Klitschko.

"I'm a fighter, so I will take on all challengers. I want to be a great champion and I'd like to do it all again. Who knows what the rematch holds? One thing I can say about it is that it's going to be explosive."

Fury’s triumph, something seen by many as one of heavyweight boxing’s biggest upsets, places him in the company of heavyweight champions to hold a world heavyweight crown. The list includes Bob Fitzsimmons, Lennox Lewis, Frank Bruno and David Haye.

There was a lot of animosity leading to the fight. There was an instance where Fury dressed up like Batman and called Klitschko ‘a joker’, not to mention vowing to retire if he could not beat the Ukrainian Saturday.

Other than that, Fury was so confident that he even bet £200,000 on himself to win the fight.

But when the smoke cleared and Fury standing tall as the new champion, he clears the air and explains that all that had transpired before the fight were nothing more than fun and games.

"I've said some stupid things," an emotional Fury said via the New York Times. "Wladimir, you're a great champion and thanks for having me. It was all fun and games in the buildup."

With a rematch a no-brainer, it will be interesting to see if Klitschko can rebound from this setback despite possibly turning 40 by the time the rematch takes place.

Klitschko will turn 40 on March 25 next year.
