One-time Winter Soldier and Captain America's old-time buddy will be the ultimate traitor in the Avengers' camp, if the fan theory from Digital Spy is anything to go by. According to the website, this fact was keenly hidden in the recently released trailer for "Captain America: Civil War."

The theory goes to say that the narrative of the trailer was focused primarily on Cap's decision to protect Bucky. The site noted that it could be more than a coincidence that Bucky is at the heart of the Avengers now and all of a sudden they are tearing themselves apart.

In the trailer which was released during the Jimmy Kimmel Live on Nov. 24, Natasha Romanoff also known as Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) told Cap: "I know how much Bucky means to you." The theory goes on saying that it will be hard for Bucky to forget the years of torture when Cap left him for the dead. "Turning Cap against his friends would be a fitting revenge," the website said.

Sebastian Stan, who plays Winter Soldier in “Captain America: Civil War,” had actually dropped hint that seemed to be aligned with this theory. During interview with foreign press for “The Martian,” the actor was asked about his role in the upcoming Marvel film.

“He’s in a place where he is learning about himself,” Stan said of Winter Soldier. He is starting to put the pieces together, starting to learn about the past. Where he’s been. What he’s done. And as you’ll see in the next movie, it doesn’t come without a huge price: emotionally, mentally…” he said. “Without giving anything away, all I can say is that he’s a problem for a lot of people,” Stan meaningfully said.

"Captain America: Civil War" is set for release in the U.S. on May 6, 2016, according to an official announcement from Marvel Studios. The film will pick up from where "Avengers: Age of Ultron" left off, Marvel said in its announcement. Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely penned the script.

The cast include: Chris Evans as Captain America/Steve Rogers, Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon, Paul Bettany as The Vision, Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye, Don Cheadle as Jim Rhodes/War Machine and Elizabeth Olsen is Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch.

Paul Rudd will make his first appearance alongside the Avengers as Scott Lang/Ant-man. The film also includes outstanding additional cast, including Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa/Black Panther, Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter/Agent 13, Frank Grillo as Brock Rumlow/Crossbones and William Hurt as General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross.
