The Nexus 6P, which was made by Huawei, was a huge success. Now, the China-based company announced that it will be releasing its flagship Android smartphone, the Huawei Mate 8, soon.

Forbes reported that the Huawei Mate 8 will feature a 6-inch display with a 1080x1920 HD resolution. The handset particularly has a stylish design, with very small bezels that will create the illusion of having a phone with a huge screen. As for the internal specifications, the Mate 8 will feature Huawei’s own Kirin 950 processor, which is a 16nm-based chip with four 2.3GHz cores and four 1.8GHz cores. It will also include a Mali-T880 graphics card, a 4000mAh battery and an LTE 4G modem. The smartphone has a co-processor for lower priority activities, as well as microSD card support.

The Mate 8 also comes with a lower-end variant, featuring 32GB of internal memory and 3GB of RAM. Other variants include the midrange 64GB internal storage with 4GB RAM model, and the high-end 128GB internal storage with 4GB of RAM. The Huawei Mate 8 also comes with the new Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box. The company also provided its own software and user interface layer over the base OS, referred to as EmotionUI. It is the fourth version of the Huawei interface.

Gforgames revealed that new leaked images of the Huawei Mate 8 recently surfaced online, showing the handset in a metal case with a fingerprint sensor at the back, beside the camera and a dual-LED flash. Fans were particularly fascinated with the very thin bezels, which almost looked as if the device did not have any. The side bezels were the thinnest, while the top and bottom were also quite narrow, giving the phone an excellent screen-to-body ratio.

The bottom edge of the handset showed two speaker grilles beside the USB connector. There was also a power button and a volume rocker on the right side. The Huawei brand appeared on the bottom of the front and on the back. The Mate 8 said to arrive in three colors – gold, grey and copper.

Based on the same report by Forbes, the Mate 8 will be pitted against Huawei’s own Nexus 6P, although it is speculated to be mainly contending with the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Galaxy Note 5. Huawei will have the edge in terms of microSD card support and a more competitive retail price.

The Huawei Mate 8 is set to launch in China soon, but the smartphone will be released at a later date in the United States. The handset will officially be introduced in the West after CES in January 2016.
