The most recent tidbit from the "Frozen 2" rumor mill is that the much-awaited sequel, unlike the original, may end on an unhappy note.

Is that the studio's way of telling fans there will definitely be no part 3?

The film's co-director, Chris Buck, reportedly said he won't put a cheery conclusion in the movie, according to Master Herald.

"Instead, Anna, voiced by Kristen Bell, and Elsa, voiced by Idina Menzel, are going to be the polar opposite to each other," the site noted.

He allegedly said that part two will focus on the individual character development of the sisters.

This bit of news appears to run contrary to earlier reports that the Snow Queen will have more fun in the upcoming movie. Also, Disney isn't really known for unhappy endings. Come to think of it, the two protagonists coming into their own more and more as individuals isn't exactly a sad thing.

Buck had told Fandango in a previous interview that we'll see more of Elsa's fun side, after all that drama she went through in "Frozen."

"[In Frozen] she had such a dramatic journey, and at the end she's just starting to feel like she can open up and have some fun again," Buck revealed. "That's what was really good about the short -- we could have fun with Elsa. And that personality... you will see in the next one."

Buck is, however, tight lipped about all other details about the movie, apart from saying some words about getting to work with the characters again.

" These characters are part of us -- both for Jen and me," he told Fandango. "Anna, Kristoff, Elsa, Olaf -- they're all parts of our personality, so it's fun to play with these characters again and sort of see where we can go next with them. Just like any characters that you love, to see them grow and to see what happens next."

In another interview, Buck mentioned his concern over the movie's impact on children.

"When the kids [watch] them, they watch them over and over again, and if we don't have a decent message in there, I think we've missed an opportunity," he told MTV.

The director also said something that some took as a sort of affirmation that the sequel may have a social theme, particularly about LGBT issues. There have been speculations that Elsa may be lesbian and may perhaps come out in part 2.

"We have two very strong female leads in 'Frozen,'" Buck relayed. "We will keep that going in the next one."

"We will tackle other issues that, I think, are out there today that boys and girls, men and women, are dealing with," he teased.

"I think we're very aware of what is happening in society," he went on. "I don't think any of us take [them] lightly, even though they can be very funny and entertaining, the messages that our movies have and the influence they can have on young people."
