Black Canary Appearing in 'Justice League' Movie? Who's Getting the Role? [Release Date, Cast, Plot & Rumors]

Rumors of DC Comic's big collaboration film "Justice League" trying to add more girl power have been making their way around the internet for weeks now.

The first rumor of a second female lead being added to the team surrounded Mera, the wife of the Atlantian King Aquaman. Now, Cinemablend is reporting that another superheroine may be added to the team.

The superheroine that is now being linked to the film is none other than Black Canary. While the character might not be one of the founding members of the Justice League in the comics, she has been featured in several incarnations of the team, including the "New 52" team.

According to Comic Book Movie, there are already several actresses being eyed for the role. Abbey Lee ("Mad Max: Fury Road") and Alona Tal ("Supernatural") have been said to be on the shortlist for the role.

While both actresses have impressive resumes, it would appear that Alona Tal would be the safer of the two choices as she does have more experience. However, that doesn't mean that fans should count out Abbey Lee as the model turned actress did have an impressive debut as The Dag in "Mad Max: Fury Road" and is also set to star in the upcoming blockbuster "God's of Egypt".

The addition of Black Canary to the cast of the "Justice League" will add a much-needed female second to the already strong character of Wonder Woman. For those not familiar with the character, Black Canary possesses the power of a hypersonic scream called the Canary Cry, which she uses only in dire situations as it is one of the most destructive powers in the DC Comics Universe.

Black Canary has been touted instead as one of the best martial artists in the DC Comics Universe. She has been able to go toe-to-toe with martial masters such as Lady Shiva and Ra's al Ghul from the League of Assassins.

The addition of Black Canary to the "Justice League" movie could also mean that DC and Warner Bros are willing to make spinoff films as the character is also heavily involved in an all-female superhero group called Birds of Prey. The group did have a short-lived live action TV show that aired in 2002 on the WB network.
