"Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare" was the first of the series to be produced by Sledgehammer Games in 2014, and it turned out to be one of the most successful games of the year.

The game was so successful that Activision, the company under which the "Call of Duty" series is licensed, won acclaim from both gamers and critics alike. The game garnered high praise for its deep science fiction campaign, as well as first-person shooter gameplay.

Thus far, there hasn't been much information about the next installment of the series, but Game Rant reports that some news has finally come to the forefront. Glenn Schofield, game designer at Sledgehammer Games, reported via his Twitter Account that the Sledgehammer team is working on a new title, but he cannot talk about it.

It should be taken into consideration that Schofield isn't talking about a sequel, and there is a good chance that Sledgehammer is actually working on another game altogether. However, knowing that the studio is working on a new game is very reassuring to fans waiting for the sequel to the highly popular game.

Another good sign that Sledgehammer is working on a sequel to "Modern Warfare" is that the studio is always taking feedback about the game from players who continuously still play the game's multi-player aspect.

Screen Rant reports that development for "Advanced Warfare" hasn't been easy. In fact, the designers had to scrap a third-person "Call of Duty" game they were developing before "Advanced Warfare." The game was originally going to be called "Call of Duty: Fog of War" and was to be set in the Vietnam War era of combat.

The reasons for the scrapping of the project is not yet known, but it is not uncommon for studios to scrap projects that they believe are not progressing as expected.

Activision has, however, confirmed that the next game for "Call of Duty" will again be developed by Sledgehammer but it will not be the sequel to "Advanced Warfare". It will instead be titled "Call of Duty: Infinity Ward". Besides the 2017 projected release date, there isn't much news about this title as well.

It seems that fans of the "Call of Duty" series will have be content with the current lineup Activision has for them for now.
