There's bad news for "The Vampire Diaries" and fans. It seems like the show will have to step aside to make way for some fresh shows.
According to a report by Cinema Blend, "The Vampire Diaries" will be moved from its original schedule to Friday night's primetime graveyard. Their spinoff "The Originals" will be sharing the same day with them, according to the news announced on Monday.
There are still 13 remaining episodes for Season 7 of "The Vampire Diaries", and the midseason will debut when winter is over. According to the report, the changes might probably be because of ratings. "Flash" and "Arrow" spinoff "Legends of Tomorrow" will take over TVD's original schedule. It can't be denied that the new superhero-themed show has more following and gets more ratings than the aging vampire-themed series.
"There's no denying that a new superhero show has more widespread anticipation going for it than an aging show, as half-evidenced by The Vampire Diaries' dwindling ratings. Legends will presumably put up a bigger fight for The CW on a night that is usually dominated by The Big Bang Theory and Shonda Rhimes," the report suggested.
Meanwhile, fans of "The Originals" might already be tired of getting spun around because of the constant change of schedule. The show first debuted on a Thursday, then it was moved to Tuesday nights for Season 1. On the next season, it was again moved to Monday nights and finally made a stop on Thursday nights for Season 3.
However, on the positive side, the schedule change might be good for "The Vampire Diaries" for one reason. Since it is paired with its spinoff, there's likely more chance for higher ratings. It's definitely one way to keep the audience and the fanbase hooked.
The recent twist of events might also help boost TVD's struggling numbers on the charts. In the latest episode, Stefan and Damon had to find ways to eliminate their new enemy Julian. A secret is revealed to Caroline that will change her life forever and quite possibly take Stefan away from her.
In an article by Christian Post, the next episode has a title of "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me." It will focus on the brothers teaming up to defeat Julian and how Caroline will have to deal with her new reality even if there are chances that it might destroy her relationship with Stefan.
The next episode of "The Vampire Diaries" will premiere on December 3 at 8 p.m. EST on the CW.
