Computer tech giant NVIDIA has officially brought back its Shield Tablets to the market and renamed them Tablet K1. While the renamed tablets were basically the same, there were few minor changes.

While most of the upgrades are purely stylistic, according to Android Authority, one of the biggest changes is that Shield Tablet K1 will be getting Android 6.0 Marshmallow update very soon.

NVIDIA has also announced that the update to Marshmallow should be available for their users by the time the Christmas Holiday season comes around.

However, according to Phone Arena, users of the older Shield Tablets will not be getting the same update. Shield Tablet users will still be using Lollipop for the mean time, however considering that the Shield Tablet started off using Kitkat, the gaming on the device still remains crisp and can play a wide variety of high spec games.

While it is yet unknown why K1 will get the update faster than Shield users, but speculation has it that NVIDIA is focusing more on the K1 market now and that the older version. Considering that both models basically run on the same hardware some users are complaining that it would not be too difficult to have simultaneous rollout of the update.

However, NVIDIA did confirm that Shield tablet users will see a Marshmallow update but the time table looks like early to mid 2016.

The biggest reason the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update is so important for the K1 is that the OS can utilize better the microSD memory better than Lollipop. This is very important considering the tablet only comes with a mere 16GB internal storage so many users will be allocating memory to their microSD cards.

Marshmallow also comes with a power-saving Doze feature that was built into the update with tablet users in mind. With the update tablet users will see a considerable upgrade to their battery life after updating to Marshmallow.

Both tablets did receive fair to good reviews from users and NVIDIA is hoping that with the introduction of Marshmallow to their newer tablets it will enhance the users experience dramatically.

Currently, both the Shield Tablet and the Shield Tablet K1 are available for sale and prices do start at a lowered USD $199 price tag.
