A lot of users are already looking forward to receiving their update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Asus, in particular, announced that several of its handsets will be receiving the OS upgrade.

Asus, which is based on Taiwan, made the announcement on its official Asus ZenTalk Forum on Nov. 16, 2015.

Android Central reported that the company stated that five of its smartphone will be getting the Android 6.0 Marshmallow soon, namely the Asus Zenfone 2, Asus Zenfone 2 Laser, Asus Zenfone 2 Deluxe / Special Edition, Asus Zenfone Selfie and Asus Padfone S. Asus did not reveal whether the list is exclusive, but some users remain optimistic that their units, although not mentioned, will be receiving an update later.

However, Tech Times revealed that if the Asus user’s smartphone is not among the five mentioned, it is unlikely that they will be receiving an update at a later time. Based on the list, the Asus Zenfone 2, with model number ZE550ML/ZE551ML will most likely get the update first, followed by the Zenfone 2 Deluxe / Special Edition, with model number ZE551ML. The third handset would be the Zenfone 2 Laser, with model number ZE550KG/ZE500KL/ZE550KL/ZE600KL/ZE601KL, followed by the Zenfone Selfie, with model number ZE551KL. The last one would be the Asus Padfone S.

Phone Arena wrote that Nexus smartphone users are already experiencing the Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Others without a modern Vanilla Android handset might need more time before they can enjoy the new update. The announcement did not indicate an official roll out date, as well as additional features that may arrive. Some of the expected features and enhancements that Android 6.0 Marshmallow provide include an improved granular app permission system, native support for fingerprint readers, an improved version of Google Now, extended microSD card support, bug fixes, added security features and more.

Asus users believe that there will be more to expect from the roll out, aside from the known features that Android 6.0 Marshmallow will bring. Similar to other brands and their respective smartphones, there will most likely be unique features native only to Asus handsets once users upgrade to the new OS.

Asus only stated that it is planning to support the Android Marshmallow upgrade for the five specific models, but did not cite a specific date. Users believe that it will become available early in 2016. The OEM stated that Zenfone users should check the Asus ZenTalk forum regularly to get news and updates regarding the schedule.
