Argentina spent the past weekend on high alert after receiving a tip that Mexican drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman was in their country.

The alert has since been called off, reports The Guardian. The tip was suspected to be false. As the Guardian explains, Argentinian President Cristina Fernandez announced three days ago, the country was tipped off that the drug kingpin may soon be in their midst, as he was suspected of attempting to cross the Chile-Argentina border in the southern region of Patagonia.

As UPI.com writes, on Friday, Security Secretary Sergio Berni told a television station

"We cannot talk about an entry when normally such information is untrue, but in the meantime it is our duty to alert our federal forces."

The Guardian later cited Berni revealing the tip was "untrue" and from an unreliable source. "We tracked down the call, found who made it," Berni, told radio station La Red. "After interrogating him, a judge found there was no truth to the caller's information."

Which means the all-powerful El Chapo is still on the run. He escaped from a maximum-security prison in Mexico through a tunnel in the shower.

Mexican President, Enrique Pena Nieto's administration has been derided for allowing the drug smuggler to escape for a second time.

As UPI.com recalls, Guzman also escaped from prison in 2001 by hiding in a laundry cart and bribing prison guards. He was recaptured in February 2014.

Although he has not been captured as yet, one of Guzman's suspected accomplice has been arraigned in court. Lázaro de Jesús Araujo Juárez is suspected of assisting El Chapo escape through the shower-tunnel. Juarez is accused of knowing about the tunnel because one of his relatives is suspected of being in charge of supervising the tunnel's construction.

UPI.com said Juarez has since been granted bail on that charge, but is still "charged with crimes against the public health and will have to face the proceedings for that crime within a federal prison."

Guzman runs the Sinaloa Cartel, who are responsible for trafficking over billions of dollars worth of drugs into the United States.
