Whoa! These French fries will literally burn a hole in your pocket.

After nearly a year-long McDonald's french fry shortage in Venezuela, the Latin American country finally has the crispy potato-ey goodness back in stock - for a very high price.

As Fusion reports, due to the government's tight restrictions on currency exchange, french fries are being sold at 800 bolivares, which is $133 USD. As the Latin Times explains, "this is due to the difficult economic situation and the chronic shortages that are driven in part by the country's tight currency controls, which makes it hard to get dollars for imports and has forced the brand to change their prices."

Potatoes are now being grown on Venezuelan farms due to complications with imports. The country is finally able to source enough potatoes to put the beloved side dish back on the menu, but at a sky-high price.

"Customers have been coming in really excited," said Yefferson Romero to the Associated Press. "But when we tell them the price, not so much."

To put these numbers truly into perspective, Fusion reports french fries currently sold at $133 are valued at $1.15 on the black market. That is about $132 in savings. Regardless, the low price of a dollar and some change is still quite high for the Latin American country where the monthly minimum wage is worth around $12 at the black market rate.

Earlier this week, McDonald's Venezuela teased the french fry comeback on Twitter. Although some fans are excited to see its return, some Twitter users were quick to point out the larger issue at hand - problems with Venezuela's status of living.

One Twitter user, @fmontes, wrote "Socialism makes you appreciate the small things in life, like fries at McDonald's or being able to buy sugar," while another, @groelg, said "Venezuela: the country where Mc Donald's selling french fries is breaking news."

During Venezuela's 10-month potato shortage McDonald's opted for a tropical substitute - the Yuca plant, also known as cassava. The plant was not received well by patrons. At least fans who are devoted to the fast food giant have the option of ordering a burger and beverage without fries.
