The hype surrounding the highly anticipated "Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens" grows and grows as the date for its release draws near.

However, with all the information and marketing materials that have been released, one question has become evident. Why is there no information about Luke Skywalker?

Comic Book Resources reports that director J.J. Abrams has actually left out the iconic Jedi from all marketing materials, including the film's posters, on purpose. When asked about the absent Skywalker, Abrams stated that he cannot wait for audiences to find out why, and that his exclusion was no accident on his part.

The absence of Luke from all of the movie's trailers has begun to spark rumors on the fate of the last known surviving Jedi. Screen Rant reports that the biggest rumor surrounding Luke not being in the trailers is that he simply doesn't need to be in the trailers. Sometimes the easiest explanation is the best.

Since there has already been reports based on the teaser and trailers alone that people are already excited for the film, and nobody noticed that Luke wasn't really in any of them as well, perhaps Abrams wants to keep his involvement in the overall story a mystery, something which is difficult especially in this day and age. Thus, putting even more hype into a movie which people are already excited about could seem redundant in some ways.

However, not everyone shares that belief as the omission of one of the most iconic heroes in film history have made several fans more than angry, with many fans making spoof trailers to ensure Luke's inclusion.

Another rumor that has been spreading around the internet is that Luke just isn't in the movie. Therefore, why would he get any time on the marketing material? This rumor seems to be a little off though as Mark Hamill, the actor who plays Skywalker, has signed on for all three films.

The best possibility for this rumor is that Luke will be playing a downgraded role in the first film. Many are comparing his role to Obi-Wan's role in "New Hope." It would make sense as Luke would no longer be the focal character as the story shifts to characters such as Finn and Rey.

What do you think of Abrams leaving Luke out of the trailers? What do you think actually happened to Luke? Let us know in the comments below.
