There were previous rumors that Samsung was developing a compact smartphone, known as the Samsung Galaxy S6 mini. Recently, a new GFXBench leak surfaced, which hinted that the smaller version of the 2015 flagship handset will indeed become available soon.

GforGames reported that the codename of the device SM-W2016, which could be the next version in the Galaxy Golden flip series. Based on the GFX Bench results, the new product will have a 4.6-inch display with a pixel resolution of 1280 x 768. It will run on the octa-core 64-bit Exynos 7420 with four Cortex-A53 cores and a Cortex-A57 quad-core unit, which is the same as the current Galaxy S6. The handset will have a Mali-T760 MP8 graphics chip and 3GB of RAM. It will also have 64GB of internal memory, a 16-megapixel rear camera with HDR, autofocus, flash and face detection, and a 5-megapixel selfie shooter. Some of the changes compared to previous speculations include the ExynosSoC in favor of the Snapdragon 808, and 3GB of RAM instead of 2GB. The 4.6-inch display might be subject to change in the coming weeks.

Yibada wrote that the Samsung Galaxy S6 Mini is expected to feature the same build and design that made the Galaxy S6 a huge success. The smaller dimensions are set to pit the S6 Mini against the Apple iPhone 6C, which has a 4-inch display. The compact size of the Samsung device is intended for added convenience and portability. The 64GB storage capacity is unlikely expandable. The Galaxy S6 Mini may also come with the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box.

Samsung has not yet confirmed that the SM-W2016 or Galaxy S6 Mini will release soon. There are rumors that the compact smartphone might become available before the end of 2015. However, there is also a possibility that the model is merely a prototype that will never be launched.

In the meantime, fans can refer to the Galaxy S6 to have an idea on the possible adjustments that may be introduced in the smaller version. The Galaxy S6 currently costs at least $599, so the Mini S6 might be priced the same or lower, Tech Radar stated. The S6 has a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and 577 ppi. It measures 143.4 x 70.5 x 6.8 mm and weighs 138 grams. The S6 Mini will be more compact and lighter.

More updates and details on the Galaxy S6 Mini are expected soon.
