Is there a doctor in the house? Luckily there was for a woman who went in to labor flying from China to Los Angeles.

The aircraft was midflight, 30,000 feet in the air, when the mother went into labor. The Los Angeles based doctor quickly went into action, using the stewardesses as nurses.

Dr. Angelica Zen is a UCLA resident physician who was on her way home from her honeymoon in Bali. Zen told ABC7 News she primarily practices pediatric and adult medicine and was a little nervous going into delivery.

"My training is in internal medicine pediatrics so we do adults and kids but really no pregnant woman at all, so since my training we haven't done much OBGYN," said Zen. "I was a little bit nervous."

Especially, since an airplane lacks the necessary supplies for a delivery. "I had very limited supplies with me and it was very difficult," said Zen. "We had to work under very constrained circumstances."

Luckily for the mother and Zen, they both spoke Mandarin and were able to communicate to one another during the process.

Regardless, Zen quickly jumped into action to deliver the baby girl. The captain re-reouted the flight from Los Angeles to Anchorage, Alska airport three hours away.

Zen said most of the passengers were asleep on the flight - unaware of the situation until the captain turned on the lights for delivery.

In a video captured on a cell-phone, the crew is seen wiping the baby and mom while a passenger can be heard saying, "This is a once in a lifetime thing. These tourists will never experience this again."

The baby was delivered 30 minutes before the flight landed.

Dr. Zen said she was very happy and relieved that mom and baby seemed to be just fine upon landing. "I was relieved the baby looked very healthy," Zen said. "And I was very happy for the mom as well."

Now onto the big question, will the baby receive U.S. citizenship? It is unsure at this time, but if the baby was delivered within 12 miles of U.S. soil she will be considered a citizen.
