The Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P models were the very first smartphone devices that featured the new Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box. Several products are also expected to receive the new OS update in the following months, with the latest Nexus units reportedly being the first in line.

Android Origin revealed that the Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7 (2013), and Nexus 9, were all confirmed to receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update soon. Based on history, Nexus devices were always the first to receive Android updates every year.

Neurogadget reported that a number of users have already featured a functional Marshmallow on their Nexus devices. Dmitry Grinberg showed a working AOSP Marshmallow photo that runs on the Nexus 4. Another user, Aldrin Holmes, is also using Marshmallow ROM for the Nexus 4. The most recent update presented that the ROM is about 80 percent complete. The official date of availability has not been announced yet.

The Android 6.0 Marshmallow update will be done over-the-air (OTA), based on the user’s location. The roll out will also be done in stages, so some users might receive a notification earlier than others. Some Nexus devices are expected to receive the update in December 2015 or earlier.

Indian Express reported that during the Google event on Sept. 29, the company announced that the Android Marshmallow will initially roll out to Nexus devices beginning in the first week of October 2015. While users of the Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7 (2013) and Nexus 9 will be getting the Android M, users of the Google Nexus 4, Nexus 7 (2010) and Nexus 10 might only be able to update to Android Lollipop.

After the Nexus devices, Motorola, HTC and Sony already confirmed that many of their devices will also be updating to Android Marshmallow OS. LG and Samsung has yet to confirm which of their devices are bound to receive the new version. Sony and HTC plans to roll out the Android M before the end of 2015.

The OS update will be expected to provide various bug fixes and system improvements. One of the anticipated features includes the Google Now on Tap, which is designed to make contextual search more efficient. Doze will help users save more battery by reducing idle apps in the background. There are plenty of other improvements available on the new Android that will enhance overall user experience and convenience.

More updates and details on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow rollout and list of devices that will receive it are expected soon.
