After Nina Dobrev made an exit from "Vampire Diaries," is Ian Somerhalder next?

There are rumors that Ian Somerhalder's character might soon be exiting "The Vampire Diaries." In an article by Yibada, Ian Somerhalder managed to give some details about what's to happen to his character Damon Salvatore in the Season 7 of "The Vampire Diaries."

In an interview, the actor said that Damon will remain friends with Bonnie, played by the actress Kat Graham. When asked further if there is a chance in the future that the two characters might be romantically involved, Somerhalder said that Damon only loves Bonnie as a friend.

In addition, the actor explained that his character will feel obligated to take care of Bonnie because that's what Elena would want. Ian managed to drop some bits and details about the fate of Damon, and it looks like his character still has a long way to go in terms of story line.

Besides it would be too heartbreaking for fans to have to say goodbye to their two favorite characters. In a statement that was released by the producers of the show, it was explained that saying goodbye to Nina Dobrev was both beautiful and bittersweet.

"Saying goodbye to Nina is both bittersweet and beautiful. After six-plus years together, the entire cast and crew of The Vampire Diaries has reached a level of closeness that I don't think any of us ever expected. Nina is excited to spread her wings, get some rest, travel the world and also take it by storm, and we support her a thousandfold," the statement read. "We will miss Nina and the four hundred characters she played, but we look forward to the insane and exciting challenge of continuing to tell stories of our Salvatore Brothers and our much-loved and gifted ensemble."

In a report by Zap2it, Season 7 of "The Vampire Diaries" will also be about Damon and how he will figure out his life without Elena. Damon will have to struggle with bouncing back and finding out who he is when he is without his relationship.

CW's network head Mark Pedowitz also said that the doors are open for Nina in the event that she wants to come back to the show. As viewers of the show know, Nina's character is sound asleep at the moment.

"We'd have loved Nina to stay. She did a great job with the six years she was on the show. She is welcome any time she wants to come back," Pedowitz said.
