Google has begun rolling out Android M 6.0 to a number of handsets lately, and Sony Xperia users are wondering when the latest mobile OS version will reach their phones.

"A day after Google made the Marshmallow update available for a number of Nexus devices, including the Nexus 5 and Nexus 6, Sony posted a list of Xperia devices eligible for an update to Google's latest treat," Phone Arena reported.

The Xperia models in the list are the following: Sony Xperia Z5, Sony Xperia Z5 Compact, Sony Xperia Z5 Premium, Sony Xperia Z3+, Sony Xperia Z3, Sony Xperia Z3 Compact, Sony Xperia Z2, Sony Xperia M5, Sony Xperia C5 Ultra, Sony Xperia M4 Aqua, and Sony Xperia C4.

The tech news source also relayed that the Xperia Z4 may probably get the update.

Further, the Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet, and Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet are also set to receive Marshmallow. However, it appears the Xperia Z1 won't be getting the update.

"Some people are going to be really upset that the Xperia Z1 isn't supported, but a two year old handset was always going to struggle to prove its relevance for the new software," Tech Radar observed.

It's not known when exactly will the devices mentioned will get the update. Sony, in its official blog, said that the company has been "working hard to bring this major update to as many of our devices as possible, as quickly as we can."

It's been assumed that the flagship/higher-end Sony handset models will likely be the first to get the update. However, the timing of the release may depend on the carrier or the market. Owners of older phone models may have issues with the update's release and will expect to be among the last to get Marshmallow.

The Android M rollout officially begun Monday this week, with Nexus devices being the first in line to receive the latest OS version.

"The new mobile OS will, of course, also come pre-loaded on the Nexus 6P and 5X, which are available for pre-order now via the Google Store, and will ship in late October," PC Mag noted.

"The new mobile OS includes a feature called Now on Tap, which 'stays on task alongside you, instantly pulling up relevant info and helping you get more done'," PC Mag said. "Marshmallow also brings battery life improvements, more privacy and security controls, and easier device setup."
