'Lethal Weapon' TV Reboot in the Works? [Release Date, Cast, Plot & Rumors

The Legendary duo of Riggs and Murtaugh will be reuniting once again as the "Lethal Weapon" franchise looks to return as a Television series.

According to Deadline, the new "Lethal Weapon" show has been picked up and a put pilot commitment has been made by Fox. This means that if Fox does not make a pilot episode for "Lethal Weapon", Fox will have to pay the studio that owns the rights to the franchise, in this case, Warner Bros., a large monetary sum. Normally a put pilot commitment means that at least a pilot episode of the franchise will air.

Hollywood Reporter states that Fox has chosen Matt Miller to write the series. Miller is well known for his work on "Forever" and "Chuck." "Lethal Weapon" will also reunite Miller with executive producer Dan Lin since the duo teamed up for the now cancelled "Forever" series.

Fox confirms that they will still use the characters of Riggs and Murtaugh for the series; however, the characters will be getting changes to their back stories. Originally, Riggs was a unstable, risk-taking narcotics officer, while Murtaugh was a homicide detective who was nearing retirement.

Riggs will now be a former Texas cop and Navy SEAL who has recently moved to Los Angeles after the loss of his wife and child. Upon joining the force, Riggs is partnered with Murtaugh, who again will be an aging cop who was forced to take things easy as he recently suffered a minor heart attack while on the job.

Currently, there is no word yet on any actors being confirmed for the lead roles. Whoever Fox gets to play the duo will have very big shoes to fill, following Hollywood legends Mel Gibson and Danny Glover.

The original team of producers is also not returning to the project as Fox is hoping there is still some magic left behind the "Lethal Weapon" franchise, which went on to earn USD $1 billion over four movies.

It appears, however, that "Lethal Weapon" is but one of the many planned reboots on schedule for Fox and various other networks. CBS has "Behind Enemy Lines" and "Training Day" planned while the CW is attempting to bring another version of "Friday the 13th" and "The Notebook" to network TV.
