Has Adam Sandler died again?

This question is prompted by the fact that the funnyman has figured in a number of death hoaxes in the past, with the most recent one being in 2013.

So, is this update for real this time around?

"US actor and comedian Adam Sandler has been found dead, aged 49, in an apparent suicide," said a rather convincing piece posted on Linkbeef. "Marin County Police in California said he was pronounced dead at his home shortly after officials responded to an emergency call around noon local time."

"His publicist said he had been 'battling severe depression'," the piece added. "Sandler had recently returned to a rehabilitation centre to 'fine-tune' his sobriety."

The post even shared a "statement" from the actor's wife, Jackie Sandler.

"This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken," she reportedly said. "On behalf of Adam's family, we are asking for privacy during our time of profound grief. As he is remembered, it is our hope the focus will not be on Adam's death, but on the countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to millions."

However, this report was later found out to be fake - Sandler is well and alive. Some fans, though, fell for the hoax and posted their condolences on social media.

Some expressed sadness and disbelief over the news. Others suspected the news was fake.

And when the truth finally dawned on fans, a good number of them found the erroneous report irritating, with only a small minority saying they were entertained by the hoax.

"According to a poll from Celebrity Post, 9 percent or 87 people found the fake story entertaining while 91 percemt or 886 people found it 'stupid and boring'," The Bitbag relayed.

If you're an avid fan of the "Hotel Transylvania 2" star, you'd certainly find the whole thing unamusing, especially considering a newly released flick Sandler starred in turned out to be a box office hit.

The sequel to "Hotel Transylvania," a hit in itself, raked in $47.5 million - the biggest opening Sony earned this year, Inquisitr said.

"This is an absolutely stunning result from a beloved franchise and it has been a labor of love for all levels of the company starting with Sony Chairman Tom Rothman through to Sony Animation President Kristine Belson to Josh Greenstein's marketing and distribution team, Sony's worldwide distribution chief Rory Bruer declared. "They really brought this film to the next level. It's not often that a sequel exceeds the opening of the first title the way this one has."
