Apparently, there is going to be more than one last ride for the "Fast and Furious" franchise, according to actor Vin Diesel.

The actor confirmed via his Facebook Page that he and Universal Pictures, the studio which distributes the franchise, agreed that the saga will end with one more trilogy. Diesel goes on to thank the millions of fans that have been following the franchise since the first installment and promises that the franchise will have to go on without Paul Walker, quoting that its what the recently deceased actor would have wanted.

IGN also reports that a director has not yet been confirmed for "Fast and Furious 8", and no one has yet been offered the job. Reports have been circulating that the main reason behind this is Diesel himself who was also very difficult to work with during "Fast and Furious 7", which is why director James Wan is not returning for the next installment of the franchise. Rumors have also been heard that Diesel himself is trying to get the director's chair.

This may not be a bad choice since Diesel has been a producer for the "Fast and Furious" films since 2008, and the last film in the saga, "Fast and Furious 7", earned over USD $1.5 billion worldwide. With numbers like that, Universal wants to take as much caution as possible for the next movie to make sure they have the right director.

With Walker's character Brian being written off during the last movie, it is also unsure which of Dom's crew will be returning for the trilogy. Dom's sister Mia (Jordana Brewster) presumably will not be returning as she and Brian will be enjoying their "retirement." Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) certainly is available as she has just regained her memories at the end of the last film, while Tej (Ludacris), Roman (Tyrese Gibson) and Hobbs (Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson) are still alive as of the last movie and should also make an appearance. Currently, the only actor other than Diesel to confirm his role in the next movie is Jason Statham who played the villain Deckard Shaw in "Fast and Furious 7."

Diesel has promised fans that updates on the film will be confirmed via his Facebook page and that the actor will not keep fans of the series in the dark.

As it stands, "Fast and Furious 8" has been locked in for a 2017 release date.
