The sequel to “Prometheus” is about to start filming with Sir Ridley Scott at the helm. The second movie will officially be titled “Alien: Paradise Lost.”

Stefan Pape interviewed director Ridley Scott where the latter shared the official title of his “Alien” spinoff. Scott shared that he will start shooting in the first quarter of 2016. Michael Fassbender will return as the android David, while NoomiRapace will also reprise her role as the scientist Elizabeth Shaw. “Alien: Paradise Lost” will focus on the two characters exploring the planet where the Engineers reside. The Engineers are the ones who created the human race, as well as more threatening beings, known as Xenomorphs.

Scott explained that the “Prometheus” story will not link to the “Alien” franchise until the third or fourth movie, if the franchise will successfully continue. The word “Paradise” is a rough translation of the word referring to the Engineers’ home, as presented by David to Elizabeth in a deleted scene in “Prometheus,” based on a Screen Rant report. Scott told Hey U Guys that the title also gives reference to a poem entitled “Paradise Lost”, by John Milton. Scott said that there is a similarity between the narrative of the upcoming film and Milton’s version of the story of the fall of man as depicted in the Bible.

The script draft of “Prometheus” as written by Damon Lindelof and the screenplay draft written by Jon Spaihts called “Alien: Engineers” featured with themes emphasizing the creation process and the concept of God. Scott shared that at one point, there were even considerations of including Jesus Christ as an Engineer. “Alien: Paradise Lost” will most likely follow the same approach and take references from the biblical creation story. Fans can also expect more xenomorphs lurking everywhere and constantly posing dangers to the main protagonists.

The upcoming movie will boost the branding and scope of the Alien Cinematic Universe. Based on an Empire report, the fifth installment of the “Alien” franchise is already in the works, headed by Neill Blomkamp. Neill said that he already talked to Ridley Scott to ensure that his story will not interfere with the latter’s storyline. The official title of the next “Aliens” film is expected to be announced in the coming months.

The official launch date of “Alien: Paradise Lost” is yet to be revealed. More news and updates on the new movie are expected soon.
