With reports of the upcoming Nexus 5 (2015) and Nexus 6 launching next week already installed with the latest Android OS version, Nexus handset owners are wondering when Marshmallow will arrive in their own devices.

Although the developer preview of Android M 6.0 has been rolled out to the Nexus Player, Nexus 9, Nexus 6, and Nexus 5 (2014), the said mobile OS version was not made available to other Nexus models.

However, recent updates revealed Google is preparing for Marshmallow's release to certain Nexus devices later this month. Some have even insinuated that Android M may roll out starting next week.

"The search giant is now on the final stretch of developer preview for the Marshmallow update and is expected to hit Nexus 10, Nexus 7 (2013), Nexus 7 (2012), and Nexus 4 handsets," Venture Capital Post said. "Android 6.0 Marshmallow is expected to debut on devices fresh out of the box, including the rumored LG G4 Pro, HTC One A9, Sony Xperia M5, LG-Google Nexus 5X (Nexus 5 2015) and Huawei-Google Nexus 6P (Nexus 6 2015)."

Is your Nexus device any one of those mentioned above? If not, you can expect to get Marshmallow pretty much ahead of most handset owners as Nexus devices generally get the latest Android updates first, although not all do so on the first day or even the first few weeks.

However, if your Nexus model is one of the earlier ones, it's possible your device may not get the update.

"It's been rumoured that Google will institute a two year update guarantee with Android M and that it will be applied retrospectively, which would mean that while the Nexus 5 will get the update, the older Nexus 4, both versions of the Nexus 7, the Nexus 10 and anything older still probably won't," Tech Radar said.

"All hope isn't lost. We've also heard a debunking of rumours that the Nexus 4, 7 and 10 will get Android Marshmallow," the tech news site went on. "This smidgen of hope originated from bits of code found in the older device's update files which referenced 'Android M.'"

"It was found in code that gets pushed to all Nexus devices, regardless of whether or not they are getting Android Marshmallow," it said further. "This means if you have a Nexus 4, Nexus 7 or a Nexus 10, we wouldn't get our hopes up of getting Android Marshmallow just yet."

We'll definitely know for sure once the Android Marshmallow rollout is underway.

The new Android OS version comes with features that aim to improve battery life and enhance user experience, among others.
