If your dog does something naughty, you imagine you deserve to be shown genuine remorse.

Fortunately for this Italian owner, he got just exactly that. And the spectacle, captured on video, is absolutely adorable, as 15 million viewers of the clip would agree.

"In a video uploaded to Facebook, an Italian man's dog begs for forgiveness for whatever it's done," Mashable noted. "Bowing its head and giving so many one-sided hugs, the shamed pooch knows that it's in the wrong."

"What did this dog do? Did it get too drunk at a party? Did it steal its owners money for drugs? Did it poop on the floor? We don't know. But it must have been awful," the site wondered.

The Labrador Retriever, called Ettore, can be seen groveling before his owner, Anthony Federica Granai, whose clip of the encounter has already gained 15 million views on Facebook, according to MailOnline.

"Ettore can be seen at first climbing onto Mr Granai's lap while being told off for the mystery crime," the publication said. "In an attempt to receive some affection, and perhaps by extension his owner's forgiveness, he begins repeatedly rubbing his head against Mr Granai."

Granai then answered in Italian, which has since been translated to the following: "Are you asking me to forgive you? You are wrong, Ettore."

"Do you understand where you made the mistake?" Ettore's owner went on to ask.

"It's only after Ettore places his front paws on Mr Granai's shoulders that the two make peace - embracing each other in a hug," MailOnline continued.

The Irish Examiner has since uncovered the cause of the owner's dismay - the pooch was reportedly caught trying to dig a hole in the couch.

"Are you asking me to forgive you? What do you want?... You are wrong, Ettore. Ettore, you are wrong. No. No. No. Do you understand where you made the mistake?" Granai was noted by the news source as saying, as translated from Italian.

Apparently, with such a compelling and repeated display of remorse, what owner could resist such a gesture? Could you stay mad after such canine groveling?

Pets have a potential for being viral sensations, especially those with unusual quirks or abilities. There's one Siberian Husky who appear to be able to say "I love you," for example.

And then there are those pets whose epic fail efforts manage to capture the fancy of netizens, such as that French Bulldog who cannot roll over.
