The rollout of Android Lollipop version 5.1.1 is coming to Moto G (2013), Moto G (2014), Moto X (2013), Moto X (2014), Moto E (1st and 2nd gen), and Moto E 4G LTE (2nd gen) "pretty soon" according to reports, as noted also by Yibada.
Motorola will also roll out the update to other devices in other smartphone and tablet lineups. However, the specific date when that will happen remains vague.
"The Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update will bring bug fixes and changes such as fingerprint sensor, USB-Type and supports for Android Pay," the news portal said. "It will bring more themes and options and a better Material Design with fluid animations."
"In addition, the Android update features a device sync, new device switch and some other enhancements," it added.
Android Lollipop was announced in June 2014, with updated versions of the mobile OS released early this year. The updates were designed to resolve glitches in 5.0, which introduced a different look and a number of improvements.
With Google poised to release Android Marshmallow 6.0 soon, mobile gadget makers and telecommunications carriers are pressed to fast track the rollout of the current Android version, Lollipop 5.1.1, to smartphones and tablets.
"For now, some Motorola handsets have gotten the earlier Android 5.1 Lollipop," The Gospel Herald noted. "These include the Moto G 3rd Gen, Moto E (2014) and Moto E (2015)."
"Also, Android 5.1 Lollipop is available on the unlocked versions Moto G 1st Gen and 2nd Gen," the site added.
Motorola has since released security patches early August in response to the Stagefright issue plaguing Android-powered devices.
"Stagefright can be caused by a video message sent to an Android-running device. It infects the phone with a malicious code when it is opened," Venture Capital Post explained.
Users have been advised to unselect the auto-retrieve MMS feature in their handsets' apps to help counter the threat.
In July, GottaBeMobile noted that the Moto X line is Motorola's priority in the Android update rollouts.
"All 2nd Gen Moto X owners in the United States should be on Android 5.1 Lollipop, and if not, head into settings and check for updates manually. Some smaller regional carriers may still be waiting, but all the major carriers have delivered the latest release," the site said.
Interestingly, the Moto E line got updated to 5.1.1 pretty quickly, considering its one of the company's budget phones. It was even one of the first Motorola devices to get the said upgrade.
The same cannot be said for the Moto G, some variants of which has still not received the update.
"Motorola's own employee confirmed the original Moto G will see Android 5.1 Lollipop, but all he had to say was the company is working on it, and he'll update as more information arrives. We know both Moto G variants will see Android 5.1, the question is when," the site said.
