There are talks that the game “The Last of Us” will be adapted into a movie, as well as have a game sequel. The original game was a huge success, despite previously poor expectations.
Slash Film revealed that Evan Wells, co-president of game developer Naughty Dog, confirmed in 2014 that a “The Last of Us” movie was already in development. He said that their team is looking forward to work with several groups that will thrill fans of the game and general audiences around the world.
"Our partnership with Sam Raimi, Ghost House Pictures, and Screen Gems to develop a film based on 'The Last of Us' universe is a perfect fit,” Wells said.
Raimi is a film producer, director, actor, writer and a Ghost House Pictures co-founder. Screen Gems is well-known for curating the popular game “Resident Evil”.
Movie News Guide revealed that Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) has been cast to play Ellie in the zombie-survival movie. A number of actors are still being considered to play Joel. Some of the potential picks include Russell Crowe, Dylan McDermott, Gerard Butler, Hugh Jackman and Josh Brolina.
Game Rant reported that voice actor Nolan North teased at MetroCon that he knows that “The Last of Us 2” is already in the works. However Troy Baker later said that he does not know anything about a game sequel. In the official PlayStation Forums, user Sackboy_305 featured a couple of fan-made photos of how the next installment of the game might appear. “The Last of Us” co-creator Neil Druckmann said that his team already discussed some concepts for “The Last of Us 2”, but they have to finish “Uncharted 4” first before moving on to another project.
Fans in the meantime, continued to speculate how the next game might turn out and still asks for more updates from Naughty Dog every now and then. Master Herald wrote that fans have been sharing some of their “The Last of Us 2” wish lists to be hopefully considered by the game creators. Some players hope to find a more positive outcome, considering the ending of the original game. They also hoped to see new environments, instead of continuing the setting in the first title. Some fans actually asked for more darkness in the story. Naughty Dog might feature some dark humor along the way.
