UPDATE - JULIA ORAYEN RESPONDS TO THE MEDIA FRENZY IN A TELEVISED INTERVIEW

Julia Orayen and her cleavage-showing, tight-white dress prompted yet another type of discussion during the Mexico presidential debate on May 6, 2012.

The former Playboy Playmate in a skimpy dress was in charge of helping candidates determine the order in which they would answer questions in the televised political debate.

One candidate, Gabriel Quadri, admitted to getting distracted as Ms. Orayen passed by.

"It is impossible not to concentrate your attention on a woman so spectacular," he later told MVS radio in a report by the NYDaily News.

Others, like Josefina Vazquez Mota, female president hopeful, considered Orayen's dress "not in keeping with the seriousness of the debate."

The Mexico presidential debate is once again at the center of media attention not because of its obvious political importance and nature but because of the controversies that have arisen from it.

Just a few weeks ago, a national TV broadcaster, TV Azteca, decided that it would air a popular Mexican league soccer match instead of the presidential debate. The decision caused uproar between political candidates deeming it wrongful to prioritize entertainment over political debates which they considered it to be of higher Mexican interest.

Without the air time, the presidential debate wouldn't have been available for the majority of Mexicans to see but in a last moment announcement, TV Azteca reconsidered its position and announced otherwise.

According to Terra, TV Azteca, however, transmitted the debate through Channel 40, a channel viewable only to people in Mexico City and it's greater area called 'el estado de México'.

Mexico's presidential elections fall on July 1, 2012.
