The witty spy spoof "Archer" could soon be a video game. That is, if video game developer Obsidian Entertainment pursues the idea of bringing our favorite master spy to star in the gaming universe.

According to Games Radar, Obsidian is currently toying with the idea of a role-playing game inspired by FX's "Archer." The report cited a PAX Prime interview by PC Gamer with Obsidian's project director Josh Sawyer. He explained that the company is looking at an "Archer" video game that would be somewhat based off their 2010 action video game Alpha Protocol.

"I don't think people really thought about it, or at least not seriously, until after Alpha Protocol shipped. But it has come up actually several times of people saying, 'yeah, that would be a good fit. Archer Protocol!'" Sawyer explained to PC gamer.

The director added that the way Alpha Protocol was made is more fitting for the "Archer" franchise due to its comical nature.

"Alpha Protocol has a very realistic look to it, but it's also kind of silly and comical in a lot of ways. Obviously Archer is a great fit for that sort of stuff," Sawyer explained.

As noted by Game Rant, Alpha Protocol is an RPG that attempted to make a Jason Bourne or James Bond-like experience. The report added that, despite being somewhat unpolished in its overall gameplay, the well-received game has a sense of humor, which makes it a perfect fit for "Archer."

Game Rant also pointed out that Obsidian is the most capable developer to make an "Archer" game happen, given that it has experience in making a spy video game and adapting an "adult animated comedy" into a game.

Nonetheless, the gaming news outlet also noted that Obsidian will need a top-notch voice cast in order to take the planned game off the ground.

The idea of making an "Archer" video game came to light after Obsidian expressed its desire to make video games from animated comedies. This desire is apparent in the highly successful release of critically acclaimed licensed game South Park: The Stick of Truth, which is based on the television show "South Park."

Hence, the developer is looking to make another TV show-based game that can follow or perhaps exceed South Park: The Stick of Truth.

Obsidian has also worked on games such as Fallout: New Vegas, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, and Dungeon Siege III.
